Over the past few years a new home fire safety message has been gaining momentum. CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE is the catch phrase being used to educate our communities about the practice of closing bedroom doors before going to sleep for the night. Studies have shown that by performing this simple act you will greatly increase the likelihood of limiting fire, heat, and smoke spread throughout your home in the event of a fire, and thereby increase your chances for survival at the same time.
This photo shows how, in a recent area home fire, interior doors that were closed limited fire, heat, and smoke spread. Although the room the picture was taken from was heavily damaged by fire and heat, the room and it’s contents beyond what was a closed door are relatively undamaged.
