Just after noon on Sunday February 11, 2018 the Fallston VFAC was dispatched to assist the Joppa-Magnolia VFC along with other area Volunteer Fire Companies on the report of a dwelling fire in the 1700 block of Old Joppa Road. Chief Bill Vanarsdale of the JMVFC arrived to find a one story dwelling with smoke showing. Initial arriving units located a fire to be involving the basement of the dwelling. Firefighters entered the structure, located and controlled the fire in approximately 10 minutes. Units from JMVFC, FVFAC, Kingsville VFC, Abingdon VFC, and the Bel Air VFC were on the scene. The Office of the State Fire Marshal responded to the scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire, which at this time is still under investigation. Damage is estimated to be $75,000 to the building and contents. There were no injuries reported to the occupants or responding personnel, however one family pet did perish in the fire.
