In the autumn of 1974, a small group of concerned individuals from the Fallston community gathered to address the growing need for fire and ambulance services in their area. With a keen understanding of their community's rapid expansion, they recognized the necessity for a dedicated fire and ambulance company within Fallston. Recognizing the importance of collaboration, they reached out to local service clubs for support.
Representing the Fallston Lions Club was Mr. Robert McLewee, the owner of Fork Paint and Repair, while Mr. C. Raymond Brownley, a member of the Fallston Jaycees, joined the efforts. Additionally, Mr. Lee A. Hinderhofer, an attorney, played a crucial role in laying the foundation for the new fire company. Despite encountering challenges in their discussions with nearby volunteer fire companies about establishing a sub-station in Fallston, the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company, Inc. (FVFAC) was officially established on November 10, 1974.
At this time the Founding Board of Directors of the FVFAC consisted of:
President/Chairman of the Board
Secretary/Treasurer
Board Members
C. Raymond Brownley
Joseph R. Kudrick
Jerry Dallmus
Richard J. Gross
Lee A. Hinderhofer
Robert W. McLewee
Dr. Brendan McNally
Paul E. Murray
Mirtha M. Ward, M.D.
Having only a Board of Directors to plan the initial growth of the new fire company, a notice was sent out to all Fallston residents to attend a general meeting for the purpose of recruiting members. At this first meeting, held January 2, 1975 in the basement of the Commercial Savings Bank (now B B & T Bank, 1911 Bel Air RD.), sixty-five potential members signed up.
As plans were laid to begin emergency response operations by the FVFAC a full slate of Officers and Board of Directors was selected to serve for 1975. They were:

To commence their operations as providers of emergency services to the Fallston community, FVFAC members embarked on a journey of training in firefighting and emergency medical care, facilitated by neighboring fire companies. Their journey began with limited resources, the first being Ambulance 1391, a 1975 Chevrolet Champion ambulance built by Springfield, which went into service on August 14, 1975, initially stationed in Dr. McNally's driveway on Fallston Road. The first station for the FVFAC was a barn located on the property of the Fallston Recreation Council, housing the ambulance. Company meetings and Board of Directors meetings were conducted in the old St. Mark's Catholic Church Hall at that time. As the FVFAC members provided essential services to the community, they diligently completed their training by riding along with neighboring companies to acquire the skills necessary for their new firehouse.
In 1976, the FVFAC purchased land at 2201 Carrs Mill Road with the intention of constructing a future station. On April 1, 1977, they had to vacate the Fallston Recreation Council property due to federal requirements and local demands. A temporary structure was built at the Carrs Mill Road site, using materials donated by the C & P Telephone Company and Bethlehem Steel Company. This temporary structure initially housed Ambulance 1391 and later Engine 1311, a 1977 Seagrave 1250 gallon per minute pumper, which was placed in service in June 1977. Construction of the first permanent station at the Carrs Mill Road site commenced in the spring of 1977. This three-bay station, equipped with bunkrooms, a kitchen, day room, and office space, was dedicated in October 1978. In addition to Ambulance 1391 and Engine 1311, this station eventually accommodated Engine 1312 (1978), a brush unit, and later, Tanker 1321 (1982).
In 1989, the FVFAC improved the delivery of fire protection and emergency medical services in the Upper Crossroads area of their district by constructing the Cross Roads Station. They purchased property at 3108 Fallston Road, and the station was dedicated on May 6, 1990. The station featured three apparatus bays with a bunkroom, kitchen, day room, and office. When opened, it housed Engine 1312 and Brush 1341.
Entering the 1990s, the FVFAC recognized the need for expansion and modernization. They had outgrown the Carrs Mill Road station, and their rescue equipment was dispersed among units. Committees were formed, and plans were laid to add Rescue 1351 to the fleet and to expand the Carrs Mill Road station. On September 19, 1993, FVFAC members and the community dedicated the new Carrs Mill Station and Rescue 1351. This 23,000+ square foot facility featured six apparatus bays, two of which were drive-through bays, along with additional bunkroom space, offices, training rooms, and a maintenance bay. The construction costs amounted to slightly over $1.5 million, and the original station was converted to Board of Directors offices, a meeting room, and a social hall.
Between 1995 and 1997, the FVFAC undertook an unprecedented expansion and replacement of their apparatus fleet. They replaced various vehicles, including Engine 1312, Tanker 1321, Engine 1313, Brush 1341, and Ambulance 1391.
In 2004, Engine 1311 was replaced with a Crimson/Spartan pumper, and in 2007, Ambulance 1393 was added to the FVFAC fleet.
Today, the Carrs Mill Road main station houses numerous apparatus, including Engine 1312, Tanker 1321, Truck 1331, Rescue 1351, Special Unit (Supply) 1381, Utility 1371, Medic 1391, Medic 1393, and ALS Utility 1399. The Upper Cross Roads station houses Engine 1311, Utility 1362, and HCVFEMS Paramedic 13. The Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company has grown from a small group of dedicated individuals to over one hundred firefighters, EMS personnel, and administrative members. Their commitment involves not only hundreds of hours dedicated to training and maintenance but also extensive involvement in fundraising, non-emergency community services, and hundreds more hours of emergency service to their community.
