Charles Raymond Brownley, affectionately known as "Ray," was a dedicated and integral figure in the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company Inc. (FVFAC) from its inception. His contributions and commitment to the FVFAC community spanned several decades, leaving an indelible mark on the organization and the Fallston community as a whole.
Ray's journey with the Fire Company began when he represented the Fallston Jaycees during the early stages of FVFAC's formation. In November of 1974, he played a pivotal role as the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the FVFAC Founding Board. As the community's interest in the newly formed fire company grew, Ray's leadership extended to being elected as a member of the Board of Directors in January of 1975. His guidance was instrumental in setting the FVFAC on the path to providing essential emergency services to the rapidly expanding Fallston area.
Throughout the years, Ray took on numerous roles within the FVFAC, serving in both operational and administrative capacities. His dedication was evident in his repeated election as the President of the FVFAC in 1974, 1980, and 1984. Ray also contributed his expertise to various committees, including the Carrs Mill Station Building Committee in 1993, the Rescue 1351 Committee in 1993, and the FVFAC 25th Anniversary Commemoration Committee in 1999.
Ray's exemplary service was recognized by his peers within the FVFAC when he was named Fire Fighter of the Year for 1982. His tireless work ethic and unwavering commitment were the cornerstones of his service, and he always aimed to provide unparalleled dedication to the FVFAC and the Fallston community.
Ray's achievements did not go unnoticed, as he received the honor of being enshrined in the Harford–Cecil County Volunteer Fireman's Association Hall of Fame in 2009. Even in his later years, Ray remained a familiar face around the firehouse, stopping by to maintain connections with fellow members and witness the ongoing impact of his early contributions.
To say that Ray Brownley was a "Life Member" of the FVFAC is an understatement. The FVFAC was not just an organization to him; it was his life's work and passion. The continued success and effective operation of the FVFAC owe a great deal to Ray's unwavering involvement and dedication over the many years of his service. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate to work alongside him and benefit from his commitment to community service.
