John's legacy as a dedicated member of the Fallston Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company (FVFAC) shines brightly, spanning nearly four decades of unwavering service to the Greater Fallston community. Throughout his remarkable journey, he assumed various pivotal roles, leaving an indelible mark on the organization.
As our Emergency Medical Services Captain, John exemplified leadership and commitment, steering the team through countless challenges. In 1996, he played a crucial part as a member of the Apparatus Committee, overseeing the replacement of five major Fire and EMS units simultaneously—an extraordinary feat that showcased his dedication and expertise.
John was not only a leader but also a hands-on contributor. His role as a primary ambulance driver and fire apparatus operator was indispensable. Around the clock, 24/7, he stood as a reliable pillar of support for the citizens of the Fallston area, ensuring their safety and well-being.
Between 1992 and 2011, John's tireless efforts resulted in over 2000 emergency responses and in-station standbys. His commitment did not go unnoticed, as he consistently ranked among the Fire and EMS Top Ten Responders each year. Beyond the numbers, he embodied the spirit of service that defined the FVFAC.
In his later years, John's presence at the station became a cherished daily ritual. He ensured that the coffee was brewed, that spirited discussions filled the air, and that new members were educated about the Fire Service and, in particular, the values of the FVFAC.
John's legacy of community service extended beyond his own involvement. His daughter, Janet von Bank, carries forward his commitment as a member of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, while his grandson, Pete von Bank, serves as a member of the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company—testaments to the enduring impact of his values and example.
In addition to his remarkable contributions to the FVFAC, John was a loving husband to the late Rita Lillian Wilson and a devoted father to John E. Wilson, Jr., and Janet Lee von Bank. His legacy continues through his seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Wilson.
John's life was a testament to the power of selfless service, leaving an indelible mark on the Fallston community and inspiring future generations to follow in his footsteps.
