IT’S HALLOWEEN….LET’S BE SAFE OUT THERE!!!!!

 October 30, 2022

The FVFAC wants to share some Halloween safety tips with you !!!

We have seen some of the local ghosts, goblins, and super heroes at our Food Truck Event and also during the Fallston Commons Halloween parade this weekend!

As we continue to participate in Halloween events, we urge you to keep safety at the top of your list of priorities!

From the FVFAC and the NFPA……

Halloween is a time for fun and spooky celebrations and activities, but it can also be a time for some truly scary fire safety hazards. As the holiday nears, take simple precautions that can help ensure the holiday remains fun and fire safe:

  • Use glow sticks or battery-operated candles for jack-o’-lanterns and other Halloween decorations.
  • When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabric.
  • Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume.
  • Teach children to stay away from open flames, including jack-o’-lanterns with candles in them.
  • Keep Halloween decorations away from open flames and other heat sources, such as light bulbs and heaters.
  • Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes. Make sure all smoke alarms are working.
Home fires caused by decorations…..
  • From 2015–2019 there was an average of 790 home structure fires that began with decorations per year. These fires caused an annual average of one civilian fire death, 26 civilian fire injuries, and $13 million in direct property damage.
  • More than two of every five (44%) of these fires occurred because the decorations were too close to a heat source, such as a candle or hot equipment.
  • More than one-third (35%) of these fires were started by candles.

9/2 : Public Safety Education Detail

FVFAC visits Fallston United Methodist Church to promote Fire Prevention and Life Safety. Our Volunteer personnel take pride in not only their emergency response duties and apparatus readiness but also in making sure that children are not afraid when we arrive for an emergency.

Past Assistant Chief Stacey Gail, Fire Sgt. Tom Prichard and F.F. Bella Price took time to promote awareness and understanding on how to initiate a 911 call, develop home fire escape plans with parents and most importantly how to protect themselves in the event of a fire emergency.
